In December 2025, the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) announced the results of the 2026 Fondecyt Initiation call. This program funds scientific and technological projects of up to 3 years in duration, presented by early-career researchers who are beginning their academic careers with the sponsorship of higher education institutions or national research centers, with up to CLP 30,000,000 annually. On this occasion, the following professors from our School were selected:

Alejandra Vega

Researcher at the Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CEDEUS) and the UC Faculty of Engineering, with the project “A NOVEL GEOCHEMICAL BACKGROUND FRAMEWORK FOR SOIL CONTAMINATION ASSESSMENT OF METALS IN URBAN PARKS: APPLICATION TO CHILEAN CITIES”.

Alessio Bellino

Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Design in Engineering area, with the project: “EXPLORING MATERIALITY IN COMPUTATIONAL THINKING EDUCATION”.

Samuel Córdova

Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering with the project “ANCILLARY SERVICES FOR EFFICIENT INVERTER INTEGRATION IN CARBON-FREE POWER SYSTEMS”.

Saúl Langarica

Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, with the project “HIERARCHICAL LEARNING CONTROL FOR PERSONALIZED TYPE 1 DIABETES MANAGEMENT: INTEGRATING BEHAVIORAL REINFORCEMENT AND ADAPTIVE GLYCEMIC REGULATION”.

The funding provided by ANID to early career academics is crucial for fostering research, collaboration networks, and the early impact of those joining the faculty at the UC School of Engineering. We congratulate the new members of our faculty selected in this call.
