Academics at the UC School of Engineering Achieve Outstanding Participation in ANID’s 2025 Millennium Nucleus in Social Sciences Competition
The National Research and Development Agency's (ANID) Millennium Nucleus in Social Sciences call aims to promote cutting-edge, world class science in our country. This program funds the creation of multidisciplinary research groups that address complex questions, with the purpose of elevating the quality and associativity of scientific production. Each Nucleus is awarded based on scientific merit and must focus on four key pillars: internationally competitive research, training of new scientists, creating collaboration networks, and knowledge dissemination to society. The ultimate goal is for these centers to contribute, through their results, to the country's comprehensive development and generate impact at both Latin American and global levels.
UC School of Engineering and DICTUC S.A. Receive Funding to Implement a CORFO Technological Program to promote the adoption of AI in the Chilean food industry
As part of the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Tourism's Sustainable Productive Development (DPS) Program, CORFO has awarded funding to four Technological Programs focused on the use and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in Chilean industries, leveraging over $20 billion (CLP) in public-private investment for the health and food sectors. One of these Technological Programs will be co-executed by DICTUC S.A. and the UC School of Engineering, specifically aimed at introducing AI-based solutions in the Chilean food industry.
Four Professors from the UC School of Engineering will be part of Technological Centers for Innovation awarded by ANID
ANID's Technological Centers for Innovation were designed to bring together cutting-edge research groups that collaboratively address challenges in Chilean productive sectors through an interdisciplinary approach. Their goal is to increase innovation in the national economy through R&D projects that include human capital training, technological services, and technological adaptation, contributing to the Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation (CTCI) ecosystem.
Professor Felipe Núñez to Lead New National Center for Applied Research Funded by ANID
The National Research and Development Agency (ANID) has announced the results of the 2025 call to fund new Applied Research Centers. These centers bring together collaborative research groups that address national challenges—climate change, energy, natural resource exploitation, pandemics—through interdisciplinary work. The main objective of these centers is to generate scientific evidence to guide public policies, improving decision-making and the country's well-being, while fostering national and international collaborations that may eventually become benchmarks in their fields.
Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) Secures Ten-Year Funding Renewal in ANID’s 2025 Call
The Millennium Institute program funds centers of excellence dedicated to carrying out curiosity-driven fundamental research that, using rigorous indicators, demonstrates a qualitative leap in scientific production, inter-institutional collaboration, and knowledge transfer. Its ultimate goal is for these institutes to establish themselves as Latin American and global leaders in their disciplines, disseminating the knowledge generated to all of society and contributing to the country's comprehensive development.
Two UC School of Engineering Professors Collaborate on Project Funded by ANID’s IDeA I+D Advanced Technologies Grant
The results of the 2025 IDeA I+D Advanced Technologies Competition, run by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), were recently announced. This initiative is aimed at supporting applied research and technological development projects that require extended cycles to validate technologies at least at a small-scale prototype level. Among the selected proposals, the University of La Frontera was awarded a project, in which the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile participates as a secondary beneficiary in a project awarded to the University of La Frontera.
