Professor Alessio Bellino Leads Innovative Astronomy Outreach Project Funded by ESO-Chile Joint Committee
The ESO-Chile Joint Committee announced on January 13th the projects selected for its 2025 National Funding call. This initiative allocates over $500 million (CLP) to projects in astronomical research, advanced human capital training, technological development, and scientific outreach.
Four Projects Led by UC School of Engineering Professors Were Selected in ANID’s 2026 Fondecyt Initiation Call
In December 2025, the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) announced the results of the 2026 Fondecyt Initiation call. This program funds scientific and technological projects of up to 3 years in duration, presented by early-career researchers who are beginning their academic careers with the sponsorship of higher education institutions or national research centers, with up to CLP 30,000,000 annually. On this occasion, the following professors from our School were selected:
Fondecyt Postdoctoral Call 2026: Five Projects Sponsored by School of Engineering Academics Will Receive ANID Funding
ANID’s Fondecyt Postdoctoral call finances research proposals submitted by researchers who completed their doctoral studies less than five years ago and who are embarking on their first independent project with the sponsorship of academics established in Chilean higher education institutions and research centers. In its 2025 call, five projects presented with the sponsorship of academics from the UC School of Engineering were selected to receive funding for 3 years.
UC School of Engineering Leads Selection of ANID National Interest Research Centers
The National Research and Development Agency (ANID) recently announced the selected projects in the 2025 National Contest for Excellence Research and Development Centers of National Interest. This initiative, a successor to the Fund for Financing Priority Area Research Centers (FONDAP), aims to fund the creation of high-impact scientific centers of excellence that address major national challenges—such as climate change, natural disasters, energy transition, and social conflicts—through multidisciplinary research.

ANID has awarded up to US$30,000 per network to finance collaborative research linking Chilean institutions across all regions with foreign partners, prioritizing macro-regional strategic areas and Antarctic science.
